We interrupt really really really delayed travel blogging to think about how adorbs Nick Robinson is, how I need a haircut, and how fridge cleanout meals are sometimes my favorite in this sleepless hour...

seasons
I've got a lot more free time these days. No, that's a lie. I know how to better use my free time these days. When you don't have parents to inevitably put dinner on the table or a stash of emergency sardines and rice for when you're trying to multitask studying/labwork with eating, you find a way to get off your ass and feed yourself. While entertaining all the food fantasies that race through your head at work. This is why it's truly a hobby now.
I was inspired by spring.

trial and mostly error
When you're poor, you kind of realize what you can live without. For me, that was avocado.
I know.
But you have to know that my parents used to get a plastic mesh bag of avocados every time we went to Costco, so I was quite spoiled with the finicky fruit that is the reason I can't afford a house. Except that I never order avocado on toast... still can't afford a house - what am I doing wrong?
There was one time since moving out that I caved and got a mesh of avos. And then the second time since moving out that I caved and got three avos was when they were cheaper than $1 ea on Imperfect.
I know.

my fall friend in spring
We learned about Heath's seconds one day. And then I found myself with two new bowls (when I wanted six) and a plate. And damn if they don't make everything look professional as shit.

comfort
Do you ever just crave a rotisserie chicken? My mouth would always start salivating as soon as I approached the rounded display with rotisseries stacked in those signature dome-ish containers - that are only $6. And there's always a fantastic smokey, roasty, fatty, savory aroma lingering over the farmers markets around here from Roli Roti. I used to peel off the skin (because that's where all the flavor is) as soon as it hit the dinner table and leave the naked meat for my parents like a good and thoughtful daughter. But actually... with the amount of times I've seen people pick off the skin and toss it in the trash pile with the bones (WHAT ARE YOU EVEN DOING?!?!?), I guess I'm doing all the favors for eating the skin first.

imperfect
Alicia rolls her eyes every time I talk about Imperfect Produce, and it's entirely possible I become a walking ad for it when prompted. But it's kind of the most reliable thing in my life these days, since I still haven't figured out a good grocery store routine (yes, this is very important). So it's nice to have a box of freshness delivered to my doorstep whichever Saturday I need it.

that time I almost killed the host
Currently obsessed with:

-tamarind, especially tamarind yogurt, especially tamarind yogurt with candied orange slices and pomegranate
-my backyard (that's not going to change)
-Imperfect Produce and not having to leave my home to go "grocery shopping"
-the idea of a flourishing herb garden now that I see it does, in fact, pour here
