About Me

These are the silly ramblings that feel as aimless as anything else in life.  I've played around with a couple directions and themes and I've started and deleted and restarted many other blogs.  If I plotted out the timeline of my life, there would probably be a correlation between emotional response to big life events and blog idea.  But this is it.  At times embarrassing, at times too raw, sometimes cryptic, often mundane, but everything is edible.
Food is my livelihood in every possible sense of the word.
It is what ultimately brought me here to the Bay where I spend my day fantasizing about food and collagen-related food. Before dividing the evenings between cooking, restaurants, the farmer's market, and food events at the Exploratorium.
Before that, it took me to the Midwest for the first time after many years in the home of pork and sweet potato and the beautiful land of green chiles and breakfast burritos. I have a habit of planning my trips around the meals and lofty ambitions to eat something everywhere, but I don't claim to be a great food critic.
I frequent blogs or IG for recipes when I'm not on autopilot in the lab or wasting time watching reruns.  But my inspiration mainly comes from whatever things are nearing their end of shelf life in my fridge and/or obscure cravings.  Oh and all the unidentifiable things and flavors my Chinese parents have raised me on. I do not have a great habit of actually writing down recipes, but I attempt wherever I can ("recipes").
But more than that...
My favorite people came into and stayed in my life by way of food.  My memories are often connected to a dish.  My motivations to get out of bed the next morning are for my three square meals.
Food is both a joy and a crutch, suitable for all emotions and occasions.  Food is adaptable, historical, and cultural.  Whole stories could be told with a couple ingredients. And there is always more to know and taste.  Biggest problem in life - my appetite is too big for my stomach.
