Beyu Cafe

Groupon is my new best friend.
Artsy moody lighting is not... for photographs anyways.
I've started to base all my eating decisions on Groupons.  Why not take the chance to eat half-priced food right?
Beyu Caffe's deal perfectly aligned with our goal to explore and eat all of downtown Durham.

I got the Mixed Grill Napoleons - Medallions of sweet potato, apples, and braised fennel served in a Thai yellow curry, drizzled with a black berry and balsamic reduction sauce, topped with toasted walnuts
Even having resumed my carnivorous ways, I still stand by the fact that vegetable(s make) dishes (are) better. [Props if you can decipher that sentence].  Burgers always need the support of onion and tomatoes, and chicken is best on a bed of greens (preferably green beans).  Okay, a nice slab of steak, I'll give you... but that's it.
But the sauces really made the dish.  As always.  How many times have I ordered a dish just to have the sauce (this included)?  Lots.

Andrew got the Jack Daniel's Steak kabob - Marinated and grilled NY Strip Steak and veggies served over chef’s rice with caramelized onion chutney and Greek yogurt sauce
It's pitiful looking but that's because... it is.  Not exactly filling for a man (or a woman with the stomach of a man), so your choices are to order or side of wings or something or finding a bakery for dessert (which we tried and failed because nothing is open on Sundays... angry).
Can't say I remember much about the taste of the dish since my tastebuds were still slathered with my curry sauce, but I think the meat was good...?  I'm sorry; just can't get over the lack of it on the plate.  Oh, the onion chutney was good... yes.

Ended on a sophisticated note with oversized cups of coffee (for me anyways).  An ode to my secret desire to live like Friends.
Peanut butter mocha.  Need I say more?
Andrew got the Mexican caffe, I believe.  Also good, but not as good as mine :)
but we've already established that I'm better at ordering food than him.

Romped around town on a semi-full stomach in search of more food.  Typical Sunday evening.
Found a mural I had never seen before.  Admired it.  Photographed it.  Forced Andrew into the second take.

Next stop: Rue Cler.

  1. So. Much. Food. It all looks so delicious, omg.

I've tried going the vegetarian route, too. I didn't have enough stamina to keep at it, though. I could never give up having the occasional burger.

Yay, for the love of coffee! 'Twas love at first sip. ;)
