Jujube

Whenever Andrew and I are in search of a new restaurant, we get helplessly lost.  It took us nearly an hour to find Jujube in Chapel Hill because both our GPS systems suck, and it turned out to be where we figured it would be right across from my favorite Thai place, Thai Palace.
We got there 30 minutes to closing.
Started with steamed shrimp and edamame dumplings.
Nothing super special, but still delicious because I'm a fan of shrimp.
A few shots just to capture the ambiance and color scheme.  The pictures were my favorite part.

Vietnamese  crepes...
and sandwich.
Both generously stuffed with Hoisin-braised pork and carrots and bean sprouts and topped with jalepenos (and pickled cucumbers for Andrew's sammy).  My "crepe" was loaded with scallions, thicker and eggier than a typical French crepe, but it was a welcome mixture of both cuisines, between French, and the fried versions we eat at home (but that's Chinese, not Viet).  The pickled veggie sides were actually my favorite.  Probably because they are always my favorite.  I could eat a large bowl of them with rice.
Sweet and savory and fat and full. Mmm.
Dessert was unplanned.  But we got fried apple-goat cheese dumplings with a perfect scoop of vanilla bourbon ice cream drizzled with black vinegar caramel.  Sounds like a mouth full, but the combination was nothing short of perfect.  It's the hot and cold sensation with each bite.  The tangy-sweet of the caramel.  It's the crunchy texture followed by the softened apple pieces, oozing juices.
