Late night cake decorating gave me a weird sense of calm. It took me back to the pre-quarantine days when I only had the hours of "after sundown" to "late into the night" to decorate another cake I put off decorating. Of course as usual, I deviated from my initial vision. As usual, I had to rearrange much of the fridge to be able to fit a crumb-coated cake. As usual I was washing buttercream off every surface long after the friends who would get my cake updates had gone to bed, and I'd look forward to their reply in the morning. It was a very fitting end to a typical day in lab filled with existential dread.
Had a Togo's pastrami sammich for lunch because Bryce planted the pastrami (and smoked cheddar) seed in my head yesterday. Don't be confused - I definitely didn't expect Togo's to compare, but what else was I going to get at Togo's anyways?
I was feeling very uninspired for dinner.

And this is exactly why you need a dedicated food buddy.

We managed to throw together an Italian-y meal (and unintentional #ad for California Olive Ranch) of Joyce's leftover garlic and lemon roasted chicken and my thick homemade noods (made with merken chili for some pretty red speckles and a bit of cabbage water for a pretty pink purple color) smothered in her kale pesto with a spot of pink-orange in the form of a cured salmon rose. Washed down with Athena's hibiscus rose + strawberry/mint/lemon kombucha.
The best part about eating with Joyce... is that I get her chicken skin.
Reminds me of a Top 10 meal moment of 2019 when we ended up at Limon Rotisserie after #metattoo, and I piled all of Joyce, Emily, and Athena's chicken skin onto my plate and savored it all after very innocently asking one of them "Oh, do you not eat the skin?"
Always here to help.
