I made a pie from the day we went apple picking.
This thing ate up much butter and time on a slow Saturday, but it was quite worth it.
Pie for dessert. Pie for dinner. Pie for breakfast. And it's gone.

Except with a cup of whole wheat flour subbed in, and I used a prepared spice mix that I got on clearance from Southern Season (I miss you). And Julia's spice cake and chocolate chunk ice cream instead of caramel sauce.
It was only after I cut into it that I remembered the warning of hollow dome syndrome that I can only assume I first learned about from Alton Brown. I just couldn't be bothered with draining my fruit, but next time, I'll have to push the filling and dough into any and all the crevices. Alas, my crust crumbled when I cut into it. That and the fact that I used a round cake pan are the reason for the poor, dilapidated slice below. But whatever, fuck it, tasted delicious anyways. I just ate it right out of the pan after the first mishap with retrieving a slice.

Fact: boiling the peels and cores makes for a nice and light apple tea. It was even a pretty rosy color (which gets grayer the longer you boil it).
