It recently hit me... how important the role of "food buddy" is in my life. More irreplaceable than a best friend or boyfriend.
They will spend hours with you researching restaurants and skimming menus before setting aside a day to eat dinner at the chosen location.
They will watch endless hours of food shows when there's nothing else to do.
They will pinpoint cravings before comparing and contrasting many recipes.
Then comes to the afternoon of shopping for the ingredients that intersect at good price and good quality.
And the preparing of hardware, such as waffle irons.
The division of labor: he sears up the beef, and I chop up a head of cabbage.
He plays around with the waffle iron until the most ideal waffle appears, and I reduce a compote of Asian pears.
The final product is Korean BBQ, cabbage stir fried in miso and chili peppers, and a cinnamon-ginger pear compote on a spiced waffle.
about cooking:
"It is work, sometimes the only genuinely physical effort in the day."
