pumpkin smorgasbord

What do you do with...

a variety of roughly chopped nuts (all of which we cracked on our own)

unintentional whipped cream made from throwing milk, butter, and sugar in the blender and stepping away for 5-10 minutes

flambeed bananas

pomegranates, reduced to a syrup

and pumpkin, made into an easy batter?

A cake, naturally.
I folded the nuts and some chocolate chips into the cream
and layered it with the bananas and syrup with two pumpkin cake rounds.

Here it is, quarter eaten in all its messy glory.

I have a perpetual problem with food aesthetics.
"I know it looks like a piece of shit, but I promise it tastes good...?"
But really, this monstrosity was actually pretty good.  Delicious when served warm.
