vintage

I wish we had saved my mother's old clothes because I'm at that age when it's time to start sifting through our mom's closets because 1) fashion has come full circle and 2) we can finally physically wear their clothes.
I used to play dress up all the time, circling belts twice around my waist before double knotting them on the gentle curve of my hip, gathering the full skirt that drags along the ground when fitted around my vertically challenged frame, pulling it up at the neck to fit the bust that is too big for my prepubescent chest.  Unfortunately, when she passed, I was still at that stage and it would be many years before her wardrobe would be of use for me, so my father donated everything before we moved to North Carolina. :(
UO had a contest awhile ago, which entailed submitting an old photo of your mom to their Twitter page, and since I enjoy passing time by entering contests with 1/100000000000 chances of winning, I thought why not.
I discovered that I loved most of her outfits... that is.. most of her outfits before I was born.  I vaguely remember the dresses, racking my brain for times when I had tried them on, wishing they were buried away somewhere in the garage waiting for me to dig up.
It upsets me that my memories of her have been nearly reduced to photographs.  You never realize how much people can fade as you move on, and even when you want to remember the small things, it's difficult to recall those memories as vividly as you once were able to.

Oh, fun fact.  When I did ask my dad if we had any pieces left, he said "no" and that I probably wouldn't be able to fit into them anyways... thanks.

  1. That first dress is absolutely lovely.
It's nice that you have something like that to keep with you and remember her by.
