Have you ever seen a long-ago friend? One you would have to refrain from running towards and tackling to the ground? I hadn't seen this girl in nearly two years, but when I finally found her (because of course I got a little lost in NYC), it felt like I had just lunched with her a couple days ago.
I successfully dragged this chick out of her sick bed in NJ because Instagram-able dessert and guilt :)
"When will I ever see you again?!?!?"
So I followed city savvy Joellah to the Spot Dessert Bar, getting there at just the right time because even Sunday nights are busy.
Oh, along the way, we happened to pass through a little food vendor market around 5th and Broadway. Pre-dinner snack was a spicy tuna taco in a crispy wonton shell from... I wish I remembered. It was a refreshing three bites. I'm usually skeptical of tuna tacos, but the shell plus the fact that they expertly used raw instead of seared tuna won me over from my initial decision to get a pork taco.

So back to Spot. We decided to sit outside (for the shorter wait) in a little well-lit alcove where we had a great view of the kitchen and the couples schmoozing at the bar seating.
I ordered the Harvest, which I evidently ate incorrectly, scooping it out of the mini flower pot while occasionally drizzling in some sauce instead of inverting the entire thing. I guess I should have done my research first.

Joelle went with the classic Green Tea Lava Cake. You know, the Instagram famous creation that had a part in bringing the two of us together in the first place. I had been annoyed at the thought of driving into and around NYC (Dad just had to get a hotel in Times Square; my blood pressure was already going up) until I remembered Joelle is somewhere in the vicinity of the City. Mood immediately uplifted (blood pressure and overall health restored).
"There is a dessert place I've been wanting to try."
"Wait... would it happen to be Spot?"
"Yes!"
"Come to meeee."
We tore our decadent plates apart, half eating, mostly chatting, trying to scoop it all up before the ice cream melted in the uncharacteristically warm evening. With the drinks, dinner (yes, dinner of desserts - no shame) was quite the sugar overload for someone like me, who craves pretzels and burrito bowls and eggs on a regular basis. But the sorbet was tart, the cake was moist, and the cookie crumble was excellent with a bite of cream.
It was so good to see you finally <3 p="">3>

I wish we had been with more people.. if only for the excuse to try at least 5/10 of the dessert tapas.
Side note: this is a bag of empanadas for the long road back to NC. I was not so amused that they gave me the dessert one instead of the mushroom one I wanted, but I did nap gloriously afterwards.
