We New Haven noobs spent a day fending for ourselves while Mono Nance attended to Yalie business. Day exploration became sitting around in a hotel lobby (which I initially thought was a cafe and/or library... awk), and our designated splurge dinner was at Miya's. All fun and games and good eats until we had to walk through the unfamiliar town by ourselves after finishing dinner past sunset.

Their menu was like a coloring book. There were stories and descriptions (but not enough//no pictures..). So actually, their menu cover was like a coloring book. I was instantly taken by it. We spent a short time ('short' for two super indecisive, 'no, what do you want to eat?' -type people) deliberating what interesting sushi rolls to get. Words like quail egg, charred skin, and scallops popped out at me the most. Seasoned rice? Grape leaves? Potato and curry sauce? I have to give Miya's 1000 points for creativity.
I feel that appetizers often don't get enough credit at sushi places. I just want to quickly note that they served a damn good seaweed salad. It definitely is more memorable than the pricey piece of quail egg sushi.
Remember, next time you whip out the camera to photograph that Instagram-worthy food porn, lift it up and document the good company instead.
Feels.
My only regret? That we didn't order the lionfish sashimi, the novelty item that was mentioned several times in the articles of praise decorating the back walls.
