Restaurant week in the Triangle Areaaaa (months ago).
We went to One, which was tucked away in Meadowmont.. why have I never seen this before? Perhaps because there's just a sign that says "one" outside. I don't think I would've guessed it was a restaurant if I didn't walk within a 5 foot radius of it. And I very embarrassingly circled the complex a couple times before locating it...
Favorite: the kitchen was open to the dining area, and there was seating right next to it. I am convinced the calmness and efficiency with which they worked is a facade, just because I read Kitchen Confidential somewhat recently. Either way, this is a necessary future house installment. The second highlight was the big ass wall of wine. Also necessary.
Pre meal bread-pita-crisp hybrid with olive oil and balsamic.
Black Angus Carpaccio with foie gras "snow", pea shoots, cidar vinaigrette, and mustard tuile
my obsession with carpaccios and tartares...growing wildly. and to think I used to be hesitant about trying raw meat - oh silly Amelia of a year ago.

Alicia's pork belly. Description is no longer on the menu... all I know is that it tasted delicious. I think I liked it more than her main course.
we watched her plate a bajillion lamb plates from the Restaurant Week menu... it was beginning to look really good... and the regret was slowly growing
Pan Seared Red Snapper with green bean and eggplant foogoth, basil peanut streusel, kaffir lime and squid ink, ocean foam
still curious about this ocean foam nonsense...no idea what it was... it was pretty flavorless... probably just cream? The peanut streusel was the one thing that didn't belong though, just didn't go with the fish. But I loved the fish. nomnomnom

Alicia's duck. The only reason I wasn't that receptive of it was because I had previously had one of the best duck dishes at Margeux's (to be posted soon).
making a cheese plate. speaking of which, I have a large block of brie awaiting my stomach in my fridge. counting down seconds to Wednesday when I can obtain a crepe.
Frozen cappuccino parfait with white chocolate-peecan feuilletine, gingerbread, crushed meringue and fresh tangerine
this combination perplexed me as well. it was better eaten in two installments. sorbet. frozen cappuccino with the cake. but so good. probably my favorite dish from the night.
discoveries made:
**my fortune from spring break: "You will receive a big fortune this year" ... in bed.
You know what's normal? Having your meals for each day of the week planned out on Monday. Totally normal.
Awaiting my third food-to-floor accident. Stained Alicia's shirt and knocked over Jeanette's salad (lucky girl had a container). Apparently, I'm clumsy now. (Apparently I also have a random "baby voice" and I "sashay" when I walk... I lawl. But it'd be cuter if I wasn't 10 pounds heavier from break and a deprivation of vegetables...Alicia...)
Already in love with my prospective living space in Australia. Already making plans to never come back to America. Already depressed because those are not realistic plans.
(Speaking of, I need to make more friends who are not terrified of drowning.)
I will be optimistic. I will be optimistic. I will be optimistic.
I think there is a positive correlation between your age and the level of humorousness of your parents.

discoveries made:
- owner.. host.. dude in suit.. will not greet you if you do not order wine? Dude, if you wanted us to order wine, we would've gladly ordered wine.
- subpar reviews on Yelp probably due to the fact that if it wasn't restaurant week, I would've never eaten here. but I'm currently drooling over their new menu... wishing my big fortune would descend upon me sooner**
- atmosphere truly does make food taste better
