I've missed having a backyard. One of my apartment viewings that turned into a panel interview asked "What are you looking for in your next home?" And I legit said, "A backyard. ... uh, and chill roommates. You know..." Reminds me of when I did my college interview and the guy asked what I liked doing outside of school. "Hanging out... with friends?" *shrugs*
Anyways, I didn't get that one.. well, because it turned into a panel interview, but I did end up a block over from Joyce with the better yard complete with lights and firepit (and chill roommates).
And there's only one way to break in a new firepit.
SMORES of course.
My mind has been thinking more in the language of Asian ingredients since the last time I truly kept up with blogging my eats. Without it being entirely about "fusion" because I still hate that word, but more about needing to use up my ever expanding pantry which is mostly all kinds of Asian things. I'm issuing a self imposed cap on pantry things now that I've moved back into an apartment with other humans who are not my significantothers and my kitchen overflows into my room. [Thankful for a room spacious enough to catch all the overflow in the first place.] Which means I have to actually start using in any way I possibly can that container of matcha powder from... I-don't-even-want-to-say years ago. It's fine, just multiply by 1.5x to get the same amount of flavor you would have if you used it within it's quality not safety-determined expiration date.

Anyways, I had vaguely wanted to attempt marshmallows again the proper way. Can only handle so many failed attempts at work before realizing maybe I need to go back and establish a handle on regular marshmallows. But why stop there? Why not roll out some graham cracker dough? And try and fail to temper some of that giant block of Trader Joe's baking chocolate that I would argue is an essential addition to any baker's pantry?
The end result:

A single s'mores sammich toasted with my hand torch, eaten in bed, was the perfect send off to Patagonia.
