It's July and that is frightening. How fitting that my massage date with Megan fell on this day after a long drawn out affair of incompetence. I certainly needed it.
Starting off the weekend with my fridge filled with microgreens and various produce scraps. And a container of beans. I call this the fridge clean out tax for trying to keep up with the chaotic fridge organization at work.
Breakfast was this doenjang sourdough pancake with anchovies and sesame oil. Topped with rainbow microgreens and scallions. Not pictured is the couple scoops of slaw from the other day that most definitely wrecked my stomach post massage. Thankfully post massage.
Easy afternoon prep to hide away from this unwelcome summer heat was this coconut ube sourdough curry thing I've been concocting in my head ever since the last chunks of my ube loaf from Rize Up went stale. I neurotically keep my stale bread (only the good quality kind) to thicken tomato soups* etc but the ube part through me for a little bit of a loop. It's not even like the ube flavor is that front and center, but I don't know. Wouldn't you also wanna take advantage of the purple color?
So this is aromatics simmering in coconut milk with galangal, makrut lime leaves, and star anise with a couple chunks of ube sourdough until the smells are fragrant and the breads are mushed.
This is pretty side prep for ba bao zhou. Looking like a legume seven layer dip.
Verdict on the ube sourdough curry is... pretty good.
She's finished with fish sauce and topped with roasted veg and salted egg yolk.
