twentyseven wisps of smoke

Ended Easter Sunday around a fire I built all by myself with seven of my imaginary friends.

I made a fridge inventory breakfast slash lunch with these found jars/containers/bowls.
Yes, my fridge is just like this. No, I don't actually know what all is in there.
found Materials
tea eggs
okonomiyaki sauce
capers
horseradish
harissa
herbed yogurt dressing
yuzu juice
grated cheddar
quinoa sesame topping
donations from Joyce: kewpie mayo, olives, bacon fat [not pictured]

not pictured found Materials
potatoes
bonito flakes
frozen peas
dashi
CSA box: lettuce leaves, scallions, cabbage, broccoli flowers

Methods to make two of my favorite summer time sides
tea egg salad
-chop up 4 tea eggs, 6-7 olives, some capers into a bowl
-dollop a bit of harissa and a bit of horseradish on top
-microwave some frozen peas and throw those in too
-add in enough yogurt sauce to dress (which is incidentally all the yogurt sauce I had left)
-roast remaining sunflower seeds and quinoa sesame and mix it all up with eggs and things
-scoop over some leaves
-garnish with scallions and flowers
To be honest, there was something slightly off in the flavor. Something tangy that wasn't quite right, and given all the different sources of tang, I really couldn't tell you what it was that was not quite right. Perhaps it would've benefited from mayo instead of herby yogurt.

okonomiyaki potato salad
-dice up potatoes and fry in bacon fat, add enough dashi to cover and simmer down until dashi is all gone and potatoes can fry up again, put in bowl
-slice up 1/4 cabbage and also fry in bacon fat, put in bowl with potatoes
-dress potatoes and cabbage in 1:1 okonomiyaki sauce and kewpie mayo with one spoonful yuzu juice and dollop of harissa
-realize potatoes are pretty overdressed, so scoop over lettuce leaves
-cover in grated cheese and torch it because why the fuck not
-garnish with bonito flakes, scallions, and flowers
To be honest, this was bomb. Look at the torched cheese. What more do I need to say?

Just missing a cold tricolor pasta salad hmmm.

Now I'm off to bed to dream about the next summer time bbq and s'mores party... whenever those will be...
