The entire day lead up to this fire pit-a pity party.
Visual depiction of "why Amelia needs a nonstick pan."
I attempted to flip this cornmeal sourdough pancake (+ anchovy broth + soy sauce + a bit more flour) which was cooked over sauteed cabbage and onion... and needless to say, it definitely didstick and broke.
Lunch dessert sampler platter. black sesame rolls from Joyce, the last Thai tea cream filled puffs, plus another roll and three more puffs not pictured.
This was because I was too lazy to whip myself up a real meal. To those who have commented on the elaborateness of my meals... I am just as happy to fill my body with junk as long as it's the easiest way possible.
But also I was eagerly awaiting the sun to go down so I could start a fire... to inhale as much smoke into my lungs to kill every last drop of covid. This is accurate healthcare advice right?
I set up the grate from our broken bbq over the flaming logs to roast my collection of chicken giblets from the freezer stash (minus the livers, which went into a pate for future sourdough toast) and necks. It worked amazingly well. Now to find a way to turn this set up into a janky smoker...
Meanwhile I prepped buckwheat + parsley flatbread per Bon Appetit (1/2c buckwheat pancake mix, 1/3c AP flour, 1/2c yogurt, a couple sprigs minced parsley), green lentils per Ottolenghi's Plenty, and yogurt sauce with green za'atar + dill + parsley. Plus a couple slices tagine sourdough (which I'm calling tagine because olive + preserved lemon + raisins, okay it's a thing now, tell your friends).
Also combine equal parts salt + cumin + white pepper and a bit of paprika for fucking amazing dip for meat. I unlocked nearly-lost memories of grilling skewers of lamb meat in the garage of our first home in Los Alamos for dinner (with the garage door open, don't worry). We'd huddle around our little charcoal grill and dip the meat in cumin salt, eating it as soon as it came off the heat.
I thought about those simpler times while polishing off half the giblets.
And then Joyce arrive with the rest of the spread.

Zahav hummus and tahini dip

With cast iron pan on standby over the fire to toast breads.

This is that sun down, smokey hair, soft string light, sizzling charcoal, snuggly fire, satisfied tummy after math that I live for:
BRB, hysterically sobbing until the day we can feast with more than two people again.
